Each module of The Open Source Intelligence DLC includes two items of material for each module.

1. A video taken from a recent Live Online Training (LOT) event.
The trainee gets to see how each process is performed.

2. A Help Notes & Links file in PDF.
The pages in this file correlate to the slides in the LOT with step-by-step process descriptions and links to all of the online resources covered in the module.

Both the video and the PDF can be viewed on the Axeten server, or they can be downloaded.

TRAINING OBJECTIVES OF THE DLC PRIVATE OSINT TRAINING

The OSINT Training teaches the investigative skills and techniques to process advanced searches with Google and other search engines, how to locate and process social media platforms, databases, websites, images, e-mails, messaging applications, blogs, forums, archives, marketplaces and a wide selection of community platforms, so that by the end of the course, the trainee shall have acquired the capability to be a proficient OSINT practitioner.

LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE DLC PRIVATE OSINT TRAINING

The practitioner will have acquired the capability to safely deploy an investigation, in compliance with the legislation and will know how to locate and gather open source intelligence and material from multiple sources and to connect people and organisations through their online activity, even where an entity might have no intended on-line presence.

MODULES COVERED IN THE DLC OSINT COURSE

Module 1 : Legislation & Operational Security

Introduces the legislation and explains how it relates to OSINT and how policies, procedures & guidelines can be used to protect the process and the practitioner. The module explains operational security which includes non-attributable internet connections and ethical Synthetic Identities (SIs) with demonstrations, live and on-line of their implementation and deployment.

Module 2 : Search Engines & Advanced Searches

A selection of Search Engines and different types of Search Engine are explained and demonstrated, live on-line, with the various search queries and techniques that can be deployed to optimise the results.

Module 3 : Digital Files & Images

Explains the different types of digital files, including still and moving images; then demonstrates, live and on-line, the techniques to locate and extract data and other intelligence from the material with trainee exercises to practice the techniques.

Module 4 : Communication, Emails, Phone Numbers & Messaging Apps

Explaining with live demonstrations the techniques required to process various communication resources and their attributes, that include e-mail & telephony and messaging apps with the deployment of emulators for safe processing.

Module 5 : Social Media Part 1 - Linkedin, Instagram, Xcom & Threads

Demonstrating with trainee exercises, the OSINT capabilities of Social Media as an investigative resource & processing users and the content they publish on Instagram, X (Twitter), Linkedin, Threads and other social media platforms.

Module 6 : Social Media Part 2 - Facebook, TikTok, Snapchat, YouTube

Demonstrating with exercises, the OSINT capabilities of Social Media as an investigative resource & processing users and the still and moving image (video) content they publish on Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Flickr, VKontake and Odnoklassniki.

Module 7 : Blogs, Forums & Online Marketplaces

Demonstrating live and online, the processing of blogs, forums & similar platforms, with a focus on the deployment of OSINT techniques to identify people using these resources, followed by trainee exercises. Then moving on to the processing of internet marketplaces, the identification of users on these platforms and the published activity of those users with live on-line demonstrations of the resources and techniques available to the OSINT practitioner.

Module 8 : Online Databases

Demonstrates live and in real-time, the processing of online databases to locate information about people, the assets they own and the attributes they might possess, with exercises for the trainees to practice the demonstrated techniques.

Anyone can take the DLC-P-O
Trainees can start the DLC-P-O at any time for their choosing, or to coincide with an open LOT-X-O course.
This format provides an option to upgrade to the concurrent or to a later LOT-X-O course.

Or the course can start when the trainee chooses and they can take up to 3 months to cover all of the modules.
Where the course is taken to coincide with a LOT-X-O, by e-mail, one module is delivered when the previous module is completed.
Where the course does not coincide with a LOT-X-O, all modules are delivered at the beginning of the course.

There are 8 modules.

Where the course coincides with a LOT-X-O, for each module, the delegate has the option to take the online test.
Module tests allow someone with oversight to gauge the progress of the trainee.
Where a module test is not passed, the trainee can the final exam at the end of the course.
Pass either the module tests with an average score of 70% or the final exam with 70% to receive a certificate

The module tests have between 5 and 10 questions.
Time allowed: 30 minutes.
The candidate will require access to the internet to process live investigations during the module tests.
Where the 70% pass mark is achieved, CPD credits are awarded.
Where a pass mark of 70% is not achieved for every module, but an aggregate mark of 50% is achieved, a Certificate of Attendance is awarded.

The Final Exam has about 40 questions and 90 minutes are permitted to take the Final Exam.

Where a course does not coincide with a LOT-X-O, there are no weekly tests, only the final exam.
The final exam should be taken within 4 months of delivery of the 8 modules.

 

Trainees might find that they struggle to complete the DLC-P-O and never feel confident about taking the final exam.
Because Axeten LOT courses start at least twice a year, it is possible to upgrade and benefit from Live Online Training (LOT).

Where a course coincides with a LOT-X-O, customers have the option for oversight of the DLC-P-O, with weekly tests.

Scope: A comprehensive and extensive training course, covering all matters relating to OSINT.

Audience: Designed for Corporate researchers and Private investigators.

Jurisdiction: The Legal and Policy module relates primarily to the UK. Otherwise, the principles taught relate to any jurisdiction.

Provisioning: PDF files with recordings from a recent Live Online Training.

Limitations: This training is for the nominated trainee. There is no right to distribute the material to anyone else.

Delivery: Start the DLC-P-O at any time for your choosing, or to coincide with an open LOT-X-O course and one module each week.

Duration: 4 Months

Technical Requirements: No specialist equipment is required, just a standard desktop or laptop computer with a good Internet connection and a Firefox Browser.

Data Protection: Each organisation and all its trainees, that take the Distance Learning Course are responsible for protecting the data that might be processed during the training. Do not leak data to corporate interests. To do this, avoid use of the Chrome or Edge Browsers.

Copyright: Each recipient of the Distance Learning Course is obliged to protect the course material. There is no right to distribute the material to anyone else. This includes people inside your organisation.

Security: Each recipient of the Distance Learning Course, and any purchasing organisation,  is obliged to ensure that all computers and devices used during the course, are not compromised, so the material is not distributed unintentionally.
